Research Overview

The school has distinctive characteristics regarding the field of high power laser, optical fiber access system, sensitive ceramic, microwave devices, magnetic materials, IC design, memory chips, etc., with an annual research fund of more than 80million Yuan, and more than 150 papers published in SCI journals.

The school has a strong scientific research platform: in addition to Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (WNLO), the school owns three science and engineering technology research bases including National Engineering Research Center for Laser Processing, National Key Laboratory of Laser Technology and National Engineering Laboratory for Next Generation Internet Access System, and five provincial scientific research platforms including the Engineering Research Center for Sensitive Ceramic of Ministry Of Education, Key Laboratory of National Defense of Ministry of Education Functional Materials of Electronic Information, Key Laboratory of Biomedical Photonics of Ministry of Education, Hubei Service Center for Photoelectric Test, Wuhan Engineering Research Center for Integrated Circuit Design. The strong scientific basis provides support for training the school talents. The school has made prominent achievements in scientific research: scientific research projects are mainly from the National "973" Plan, "863" High Technology, National Science and Technology Project, Scientific Research Fund for National Defense, National Natural Science Fund, researches and development projects issued by ministries, and cooperation projects with industries, universities and research institutes. Quite a few scientific and technological achievements have been applied and popularized, which has made important contribution to the national economic construction, social development and scientific and technological progress.

The layout of the disciplines of our school has been optimized and become more reasonably arranged. The optical engineering discipline, under the main construction of our school, nationally ranks the first; and the discipline of electronic science and technology ranks 11. Some of our advantageous disciplines have great influence in China. Aiming at the demand of the country, we are strong and trustworthy in handling important projects. The scientific research projects of the school are mainly from the National "973" Plan, "863" High Technology, National Science and Technology Project, Scientific Research Fund for National Defense, National Natural Science Fund, researches and development projects issued by ministries, and cooperation projects with industries, universities and research institutes.
