The Department of Laser Technology of Huazhong University of Science and Technology was established relying on the National Engineering Research Center for Laser Processing.
History
Since its foundation in 1970, the Department of Laser Technology of Huazhong University of Science and Technology has become one of the most important research centers and cultivating bases for laser application in China.
In 1970, Laser Research Group was set up.
In 1979, Laser Technology Research Institute was established.
In 1996, National Engineering Research Center for Laser Processing was established.
In 2000, HUAGONG TECH Corporation based on National Engineering Research Center for Laser Processing was listed successfully.
In 2008, the National Center for International Research for High Power Laser between China and Russia was built.
In 2012, National Engineering Research Center for Laser Processing won the Outstanding Contribution Award issued by National Development and Reform Commission.

Specific Undergraduate Courses:
Applied Optics, Physical Optics, Laser Principles and Technology, Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics, Solid State Physics, Laser Devices and Systems, Laser-Matter Interaction, Engineering Application of Laser.
Specific Graduate Courses:
Gaseous Electronics, Introduction to Optical Electronics, Recent Developments of the Laser Technology, Laser Processing, Photoelectric Detection and Optical Image Processing.

Principle and Technology of Solid State Laser .

Faculty & Students
There are 30 faculty members in our department, including 3 professors, 7 associate professors, 6 lecturers, 2 senior engineers, 4 engineers and 5 workers. In recent years, we introduce 2 high-level PhDs overseas. Nearly 10 people of Thousand Talents program or enterprise leaders in the field of laser in Wuhan take the post of part-time professor or gradute students innovation mentor in the Department of Laser Technology.
And there are more than 20 PhD students and 50 Graduate students in our department.

As the important cradle in China industrial laser technology, the Department of Laser Technology cultivate a large quantity of talents. Bosses or chief engineers of numerous laser corporations, such as HGLASER, CHUTIAN LASER, UNITY LASER, SINTEC OPTRONICS, DR LASER, YANGTZE SOTON LASER, HAN’SGS, came from here. They offer strong support to Optics Valley of China and even the national laser industry development.

Research results and rewards
In recent years, the Department of Laser Technology undertook Eleventh Five major scientific and technological support plan, International cooperation major program, Engineering center innovation ability program, and National Natural Science Foundation of China and many other research and platform building programs, and has been funded with more than 40 million thousand RMB. In 2011 and 2012, the Department of Laser Technology Successfully developed a new generation of industrial lasers (7kw fast axial flow CO2 laser, 2kw RF slab CO2 laser, kilowatt disk solid laser).
So far, the Department of Laser Technology successively has won over 10 provincial and ministerial-level awards, one silver award of Geneva International Invention Award, one important achievement award of Chinese optics, and have obtained 30 Chinese invention patents, published 5 academic monographs and more than 200 papers In the domestic and foreign academic journals, in which about 10 papers were OPTIC EXPRESS and OPTIC LETTER included.
