Department of Microelectronics is devoted to training high-level talents in the field of microelectronics science and technology and to the high-level research on Microelectronic Materials and Devices. Its predecessor is the specialty of Semiconductor Materials and Devices of the Department of Radio Engineering founded in February, 1960. Currently, there are 21 teachers, including 6 professors (one "Changjiang Scholar" Professor included), 5 associate professors / senior engineers and 10 lecturers. This Department is of solid teaching resources and high-level scientific research ability. It is qualified to train professional students for bachelor, master's and doctoral degrees in microelectronics. Its undergraduate major is "Microelectronics Science and Technology" and "Electronic Science and Technology". MSc and PhD majors are "Microelectronics and Solid Electronics".

In professional talents training, the Department adheres to the combination of science and engineering, pays attention to the basic theory, emphasizes on practical skill and lays stress on the cultivation of students’ comprehensive design and research abilities from micro-nano scale electronic materials, devices, circuits, layout, process to system. Students can be engaged in the research, design, development, management and other work in the field of microelectronics after graduation. Graduated students from the Department of Microelectronics have been widely applauded by their employers, including domestic and foreign high technology enterprises, research institutes and universities, for their solid foundation in professional knowledge, strong practical abilities and good comprehensive qualities.

In scientific research, the main interests of the Department include: information storage materials and memories, solar cells and other new micro-nano scale electronic devices. The Department has undertaken many national "863" projects, national defense research projects,  National Natural Science Foundation projects, other provincial and ministerial level scientific research projects, and cooperative projects from some large or medium-sized enterprises. The Department has established good relationship and cooperation with many high-tech enterprises, for example, Huawei, Wuhan XinXin semiconductor, and so on. The Department has published more than 100 academic papers on some well-known domestic and foreign journals and conferences, such as Scientific Report, APL, JAP, IEEE, etc.

In international cooperation, the Department of Microelectronics has maintained close and friendly relationships with more than 20 foreign universities, scientific research institutions and companies. Each year, tens of overseas well-known professors and scholars come to the Department to give scientific tutorials. At the same time, each year, there are several faculty teachers and doctoral students are selected to join overseas visiting study programs or cooperative research projects, or attend international academic conferences.
