In the morning of June 19th, Martin Wegner, academician of Germany Academy of Sciences (GAS) as well as the tenured professor of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology(KIT), has been formally invited to be honorary professor of HUST. The appointment ceremony was held in Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (NLO). Luo Qingmin the vice president conferred appointment letter.
Luo introduced Prof. Wegener with HUST’s recent development, and appreciated him for his sustaining academic support in relevant fields. Prof.Wegener spoke highly of the researches conducted by School of Optical and Electronic Information HUST with NLO and he eyed the honorary professors in HUST as a great honor. He anticipated that there would be further more exchanging opportunities between KIT and HUST.
As a tenured professor in Department of Physics KIT, Martin Wegener enjoys a high status in this field for his frontier researches. He is an academician in Germany Academy of Sciences, a member of the Optical Society of America, a member of Hector Foundation and an adjunct professor in College of Optical Sciences in the University of Arizona. He graduated from Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in 1987. From 1987 to 1989 he had been working in AT&T Bell Laboratories for his postdoctoral research. Then he became a professor in Universitaet Dortmund in 1990. Five years later, in 1995, he transferred to KIT and has been serving as the Coordinator of the DFG-Center for Functional Nanostructure since 2001. His researches cover various Optical branches: Ultrafast Optics, Nonlinear Optics, Near Field Optics, Photonic Crystals and Photonic Metamaterial. Since 1999, Wegener has eight of his research papers published on Science, six onNature, twelve on Physical Review Letters and fifteen on Advanced Materials. Additionally, he has finished five monographs.
