On August 17th to 18th, 2019, The First International Competition of Autonomous Running Intelligent Robots which topic was ‘Intelligent for Better Life’ was held successfully by Beijing Association for Science and Technology mainly, Beijing Institute of Electronics, Institute of Microelectronics of Tsinghua University, Beijing Science and Technology Society Service Center together in Beijing, attracting more than 33 teams from different countries like China, Germany, UK, South Korea, Pakistan and so on attended, Represents from relevant institutions from more than 20 countries and regions attended the competition and communicated.

Five excellent students from our college made a team called ‘Chinese Room’, with the guidance of teachers Chao Wang and Guoyi Yu, they got a very good grade ranked top five among 33 teams so in the end they got the second prize of this competition.

The purpose of this competition is ‘let’s find out whose robot is smartest’, there are three types of competition which are standard format, free format, exhibition format. ‘Chinese room’ participated in standard format that requires the robot should work in a special situation where the robot can’t rely on the control under framework of experience and knowledge, but on its own autonomous intelligent mind. If you want to do that what you need are much more powerful intelligent algorithm, much more powerful perceptual interaction, much more powerful abilities of attitude control and motion control, and at the same time the high requirements of programming capability and the abilities of controlling robots for team numbers are necessary.
Awards Ceremony of the first International Competition of Autonomous Running Intelligent Robots
The two advisers and five students were preparing with nothing at the beginning and then they developed everything step by step, like learning basic knowledge, building a new track, designing the action group of the robot, debugging code, determining parameters. They made a huge effort on the processing of this competition. In the summer vacation, they didn’t have an experimental field, but they built a very simple track in the lobby of public project lab on the South fifth department. It common that you must sit down on the floor because there were no seats for you. Under such a severe environment, the team numbers figured some crucial code out that allows robot to go through every obstacle, they payed attention to the details and won’t stop until some important parameters were determined.

Even though they prepared everything, but there was still a little problem causing some codes meaningless when they used the final track, because of the different color and parameters of the final track prepared with used track. To make matters worse, during the first game, the team’s robot broke, and it seemed to be in a desperate moment. They stayed a whole night to design new codes for new actions of robot and quickly changed the plan. The team numbers never gave up, each time they met a new problem, they solved it. In the finals they made an ideal grade.

Award certificate
The reason why they made a huge success in the competition is they have a passion and positive attitude for robots and no matter what kind of problems they may meet they never give up.
