On August 20th, The Seventh Competition of Photoelectric Design for Undergraduates was held in Qingdao. All teams in our college won the prize, including 3 first prizes, 2 second prizes, which in those first prizes there were two gold awards and one bronze award, ranked first among other universities. Some teachers，like Qizhen Sun, Wenfeng Yu, Fei yi, Xiaodong Liu, got an honor called ‘Excellent Guided teacher’ in this competition, and it was also the first time for The School of Optical and Electronic Information to got a title ‘Excellent Organization Unit’ in The Competition of Photoelectric Design for Undergraduates.

All the works we need to do in this competition is organized by our college, with the help of public project laboratory for students and other connected departments. The public project laboratory for students had made a lot of plans in detail and made a progress step by step, like holding a meeting, inviting experts, entrepreneurs, and entrepreneurial instructors in the field of optoelectronics to give a speech of innovation and entrepreneurship seminars, entrepreneurship counseling, and training camps to enhance the level of each participating team. The teams could get a very useful experience before the competition. Our college took the opportunity of participating of ‘The Competition of Photoelectric Design’ to build a platform for all teachers, students, alumnus, on the one hand, they could improve the abilities of innovation and practice and turn the mind into reality faster, on the other hand, keeping the brand ‘learned in photoelectricity, taught in photoelectricity’ better.

The purpose of this competition held by Optical Society of China is to make photoelectric knowledge popularized, to improve the abilities of innovation, to practice team spirit of cooperation, to promote the education reformation. This year the competition was held by Qingdao, there were 198 teams form 86 universities participating in this competition totally. In the end there were 34 teams won the first prizes (including 7 Gold awards, 10 Silver awards, 17 bronze awards). Topic of this competition is ‘Exploring Light’, the rules are the same as Internet+ for Undergraduates in China. This is the first time to use opening set questions, which improves the passion of all students in different universities. The number of universities participating in the seven areas of this competition is more than 200 for the first time, the influences of this competition are immense than ever before.
